The former UGC/Cineworld cinema on Renfrew Street in Glasgow has closed but is scheduled to reopen by mid-2026 as an Omniplex cinema following a major refurbishment. The venue, which has operated under several brands over the years, will receive significant investment to modernise its facilities, including the addition of luxury recliner seating and 4K laser projection.
History: The cinema first opened in 2001 as UGC, rebranded as Cineworld in 2005, and was most recently acquired by Omniplex Cinemas.
Closure: Cineworld Glasgow Renfrew Street officially closed on 28 September 2025 due to a decision made by the building’s landlord.
Reopening: The site is expected to reopen in mid-2026 under Omniplex ownership.
Upgrades: Omniplex plans a comprehensive upgrade featuring luxury recliners, 4K laser projection, and Dolby Atmos sound to enhance the overall cinema experience.
